According to Dr. Google, an expert is a person who has a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of or skill in a particular area. The expert acts with confidence and says things with certainty.
How many experts have you met in your life? You might answer that you have not met one yet or you have only met very few. I can assure you that you have met many. In fact, you might be the expert yourself.
Think of the time when you were facing some issue. How many people gave you advices and told you with certainty what to do as if they actually knew for sure and experienced it before?
Think of the time when someone told you of their challenges. How many times did you give that person advices as if you really knew what’s going on?
How many times have you noticed that people who gave you advices actually did not follow their own advices? How many times have you noticed that you did not follow your own advices?
Yet, you did not hesitate to give your advices to others when they told you of their challenges. Even though deep down inside you, you knew that it might not work.
Try this for yourself: stop giving advices to other people, ask them questions instead, be curious about what they tell you. In other words, be the novice in their life. Be your own expert. Solve your own challenges.
